Olivos centenarios de la Sierra Norte de Sevilla

The Old Olive is an ecological Virgen Extra olive oil produced with a variety of olive called “Lechín de Sevilla”. This variety of olive is also known as “Ecijano” in Córdoba, “Lechino” in Cádiz or “Zorzaleño” in many towns of Seville. This is a strong olive well adapted to difficult lands, to limestone soils and to a high level of salinity. It is also very resistant to frequent frosts and droughts of its original place.

This olive is not a very productive variety (it provides an average production of oil) and its recollection is difficult (usually by hand) because its fruits are well seized by the branch of the trees. This provokes that this olive is not habitual in the production of olive oil, although it has a very high quality.

This variety “Lechín de Sevilla” is closely linked to “Acebuche”, which is an olive tree cultivated in its natural way of life since splendid ages of the agrarian rural world of this specific place.

The site where La Vega del Guadalquivir is placed is closely linked with the olive oil since centuries ago; when Romans lived, from Alcalá del Río to Córdoba and through Genil river to Écija was the place where the famous Dressel amphoras were made. The major productive place of these objects was Lora del Río, whereas Alcalá del Río had the most active harbour for exportations.

Five generations of olive oil producers

The production of The Old Olive has its origins in our country property in Sierra Norte of Seville, next to a town called Lora del Río. This property has belonged to our family since many decades ago.

Traditional methods

We have not changed anything from our productive system in The Old Olive to adapt our methods to the “ecological fashion”. We are proud of producing our olive oil in the same way as we have always done: in a traditional one, without any chemical products nor cold oil extraction.
